Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Karen Slabas, who serves patients in Allen, Texas.

In practice since 2010, Dr. Slabas is a caring and compassionate obstetrician-gynecologist practicing at Texas Health Women’s Care in Allen, Texas. Her practice includes well-woman health maintenance, complete obstetrical care including high-risk pregnancies, menopausal management, urinary incontinence, infertility care, and minimally invasive surgery utilizing both laparoscopic and da Vinci® Si/Xi robotic surgical approaches. Originally from Hawaii, Dr. Slabas now calls Texas home. She attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Biomechanics. She then went on to earn her Master of Arts degree from Loyola University-Chicago, before attending school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago; where she received her medical degree. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at The Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she served as Chief Resident.  During that time, she won numerous awards, including Excellence in Research for her work in postoperative pain relief during robotic surgery, Resident of the Year Award from the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and Resident Teacher of the Year Award four years in a row!

Karen K. Slabas, MD, attended University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago in Chicago, IL, and received her medical degree in 2010. Furthermore, she conducted her internship and obstetrics and gynecology residency at The West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA (2010-2014), where she served as Chief Resident. While there, she also earned the Excellence in Research Award for her work in postoperative pain relief during robotic surgery, the Resident of the Year Award from the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and the Resident Teacher of the Year Award for four consecutive years. In addition, Dr. Slabas received board certification in obstetrics and gynecology from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She remains an active member of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, and the Society of Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeons. Prior to medical school, Dr. Slabas acquired at BS degree in Biomechanics at the University of Michigan (2003) and a MA degree in Biological Sciences at Loyola University Chicago (2005).
